Program

Stronger Together: 12-Step Recovery for Men with Mutual Support

section1 underline 1

Unlike conventional, insurance-driven rehab programs, Discovery Place offers a 12-step mutual support group focused on lasting transformation. Over the past 25 years of serving men, we’ve seen countless lives transformed through this proven process and guide our guests through the practical application of the 12 steps for long term sobriety and a life that is happy, joyous, and free.

Phase 1: Steps 1-5
30 Day Rehab

Phase 1 is where willingness meets opportunity. Guests need only the willingness to stay and begin a fresh chapter. Our first goal is comfort and acclimation, supported by Guides, staff who have experienced sobriety and Discovery Place themselves. During Phase 1, guests work through the first five steps of the 12-step program in one-on-one and small group settings, an approach proven effective for sustainable recovery. Early sobriety often brings fear, resentment, and discomfort, but we help guests overcome these challenges by sharing our own experiences of addiction and recovery. No one is better suited to guide this process than those who have been there themselves.

Phase 2: Steps 6-9
Long Term Recovery

Alcoholism and addiction are diseases of the mind and don’t disappear simply by abstaining from drugs and alcohol. Often, the underlying issues that fueled our substance use emerge in sobriety, requiring more work beyond the initial 30 days. Many guests need time to lower their defenses and build healthy relationships with others, as years of presenting a “character” take time to undo. Phase 2 long-term recovery provides this space, guiding guests through steps 6–9 of the 12-step program to address character defects, practice humility, and make amends. This deeper work tackles root causes rather than symptoms, helping guests live with integrity and dignity. Our goal is to support lasting sobriety and fulfilling, useful lives.

Phase 3: Steps 10-12
Discover Living Program

Discover Living Program is our transitional program designed for taking responsibility for one’s own recovery and reintegrating back to life. With the help of a Guide, the guest will learn how to integrate the program of recovery taught during Phase 1 and 2 into everyday life. He will actively be working with a 12 step sponsor, and continue practicing the 12 steps, with an emphasis on steps 10-12. He also will address any needed life skills; holding down a job while sober, budgeting finances, individual grocery shopping, time management and other life skills that need to be addressed per individual upon request.

Common questions & Resources

Getting clean and sober isn’t easy, but it is possible

section1 underline 1

Here are some common questions we get from addicts and their loved ones about getting clean and sober, how to pay for treatment, and what it’s like to come to Discovery Place.

What if my loved one won’t go to rehab?

You may be surprised by how much influence you actually have! Most of us came to Discovery Place because of decisions made by our loved ones. This is actually a big part of what we do. We were the fathers and sons in the same position as your fathers and sons. Call 1-800-725-0922 and we will tell you about effective means of communication, emphasize expressions of love and concern, and answer any questions pertaining to your specific relationship.

If your loved one accepts the prospect of Discovery Place, it’s important to move quickly. We’ll help you with all the next steps. And if your loved one isn’t interested in accepting help, it’s a good time to consider the choices you can make to protect yourself and to prevent any actions that make a life of addiction comfortable and possible. It is also important to note that addiction interventions are often necessary to get individuals into treatment.

Absolutely. After the initial 30-day phase, you transition into our Long Term Recovery (Phase 2) program. There, you’ll begin taking on responsibilities like cooking, cleaning, community outings, working with a 12-step sponsor, and participating in weekly family check-ins—all designed to help you apply recovery principles in real-world settings before moving into the final phase.

When you arrive, bring only the essentials: toiletries, seasonally appropriate clothing, clean socks and underwear, and any prescribed medications—properly labeled. Leave behind anything with alcohol (like mouthwash or cologne), snack foods, energy drinks, and digital devices such as phones or laptops.

You’ll be greeted by a member of our admissions team—someone who’s been through this journey—who’ll walk you through the intake process, show you your room, and introduce you to the campus.

While Discovery Place is spiritually focused, it is not affiliated with any specific religion. The program is grounded in the principles of the 12 Steps, which emphasize a spiritual solution to addiction, but people from all backgrounds and belief systems are welcome. Many guests find renewed meaning and purpose without needing to subscribe to any particular faith.

Discovery Place is peer-led, meaning many staff members are in recovery themselves and have walked the same path. The program is immersive and community-driven, offering a structured 12-Step mutual support group without the clinical, hospital-like environment. Guests live together, support one another, and work daily on spiritual growth and personal responsibility in a setting designed to feel like home—not an institution.

Real Stories. Real Recovery.
